When you get hit with life altering challenges will you still dance? This blog post is inspired by my sister who was hospitalized with a sickness that could have ended her life. However through this experience she did not allow this unexpected challenge stop her from doing what she loved most and that is dancing. Not only did she dance but through it all she was still able to smile.
Romans 5:3-5
"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."
Response to Suffering
Now, contrary to popular belief, the promise of life without suffering is not reality. Because we live in a fallen world, there will be suffering. However, how we respond to suffering will determine whether or not we come out of it with all of our minds intact.
We are reminded throughout scripture that there will be suffering. So this reminder prepares us, so that in the midst of whatever we're going through, we do not lose hope. One of the things that the enemy desires is your denial of the Father. We saw this in the story of Job, where the devil was confident that Job would deny or curse God if he lost it all. But even in all the challenges he faced, the anger he felt, he did not curse God. Although Job on several occasions questioned God, he did not curse him. Many of us, when in pain, tend to ask "God why me?" Or similarly to Job, "Why has God given me life only to send me such suffering now?"
Questioning God versus asking God questions is different. The former scrutinizes while the latter seeks comfort and understanding. It should be understood that God is sovereign and therefore has a purpose for your pain. There is purpose for your pain because there is purpose for your life. This blemish on your timeline will seem so insignificant compared to the glory that you will experience after it. It's okay and helpful to seek understanding, but questioning God only breeds bitterness and disconnection from God. So today, I want to encourage you in the midst of your situation to "keep dancing". Strive to do what you enjoy and let peace and joy be your portion as you overcome life's challenges.
